HUB vs Taper vs KeyMount: Which Muzzle Device Path Do You Need?

HUB, taper, and KeyMount are not three names for the same connection. They describe different suppressor-side paths. A muzzle device can have the correct 1/2-28 or 5/8-24 barrel thread and still be wrong for the suppressor the customer owns.

The clean selection process has two halves. First, match the muzzle device to the firearm's thread and indexing surface. Second, match the muzzle device to the suppressor or adapter ecosystem.

Start With the Barrel Thread

Common shoulder-thread hosts use 1/2-28 or 5/8-24 threads. The thread must match the barrel, the device bore must support the projectile, and the shoulder must be suitable for indexing. Confirm all three before moving to the suppressor interface.

JMac product names often use 28S for a 1/2-28 shoulder-mounted device and 30S for a 5/8-24 shoulder-mounted device. A similar-looking 28F facemount product is not automatically interchangeable with a 28S shoulder-mounted product.

What Is the JMac Taper Path?

The JMac taper device uses a taper-thread interface to connect compatible suppressor adapters and devices, such as the 360HD-28S-TM and 360HD-30S-TM.

The taper ecosystem includes compatible Plan B-style and Rearden Atlas-type routes where applicable. It is not KeyMo. The taper-thread devices are compatible with BANKA using the correct HUB to taper adapter. 

What Is the HUB Path?

HUB commonly refers to the 1.375-24 suppressor rear-thread standard used by many suppressors and adapters. A HUB-oriented muzzle device or adapter route can give the customer flexibility, but the complete chain still has to be verified.

Products such as 360HD-28S-X37 and 360HD-30S-X37 serve HUB-oriented shoulder-thread devices. Confirm the exact suppressor, adapter, muzzle device, caliber, and mounting instructions. Do not assume that every HUB suppressor attaches directly to every X37-labeled device without the correct matching interface.

What Is KeyMount?

KeyMount is the Dead Air KeyMo/KeyMicro-style mounting system. JMac KeyMount muzzle devices, including 5/8-24 options such as 360HD-30T-KM where applicable, are made for that ecosystem.

A Sandman K uses Dead Air KeyMo rather than HUB. KeyMount devices can be used with the BANKA using HUB compatible KeyMount adapters. 

A Practical Selection Example

For a verified 1/2-28 shoulder-thread host, the customer first confirms caliber and whether or not a shoulder is present, then chooses between the 28S taper or 28S HUB-oriented route based on the suppressor system. For a verified 5/8-24 host, the customer may have 30S taper, 30S HUB, or a compatible KeyMount option. The right answer comes from the suppressor interface, not from which muzzle device looks best.

The Five Questions to Answer

1. What is the exact barrel thread?
2. Does the device index from a shoulder or muzzle face?
3. What caliber and bore clearance are required?
4. Which suppressor or adapter interface is being used?
5. Has the complete mounted setup been checked for alignment?
